PRO-BOLT HELP & INFO
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Pro-Bolt Stainless Steel/Titanium safe to use in stress areas such as Brake Discs and Brake Mounts?
Yes, we manufacture fasteners from 316 Stainless Steel and Grade 5 Titanium, these are equivalent to between 8.8 and 10.9 grade Steel. Our bolts are used by British and World Superbike Teams and various MX Teams and therefore tested at the highest levels. Where we specify a fastener can be used, we are confident our fasteners are equivalent to and in most cases superior to Original Manufacturers Equipment.

Will Pro-Bolt Anodising fade?
No, under normal circumstances and if cared for in the appropriate manner our anodising will not fade. When cleaning mild soapy water and a soft brush or cloth are recommended. Harsh cleaning chemicals and scouring pads are not recommended as is the case with Original Manufacturers Equipment.

Do I need to use thread lock on my bolts?
Thread lock can be used as per original equipment recommendations, however if no thread lock is used an anti-seize lubricant of some sort is recommended. Most of our kits are supplied with Pro-Lube (copper slip). This is not a thread but a lubricant to prevent galling lock and bolt torques should be checked regulary.

How do I measure a bolt/fastener?
Length: For fasteners where the head usually sits above the surface, the measurement is from directly under the head to the end of the fastener.
Countersunk bolts are measured including the head.
Diameter: The measurement across the width of the bolt from crest to crest along the thread of the bolt.
Thread Pitch: The measurement from crest to crest along the bolt of thread.
Diameter and Thread pitch are almost impossible without a gauge, we have designed Pro-Gauge specifically to make taking any fastener measurement as simple as possible. Please click on the link to view/order Pro-Gauge Measuring Tool
